Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve last table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While betting on web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
