Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While gambling on online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amt.. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
